Nemrod 75mm Joan of Arc and Andrea Miniature 54mm Teddy Roosevelt

Here are my latest two projects. The first one is Joan of Arc by Nemrod Figures. I tried to do more highlighting and shadowing with my metallics on this one. I added a rose color glaze to her face to give her a more youthful appearance. I think it came out pretty well on the skin tones. The next figure is Teddy Roosevelt 54mm by Andrea Miniatures. I think this one of the best ones I have done to date though I am not pleased with the way my camera made everything so bright. In person the figure is very dark on the blues of the shirt, especially the shadows. There is a clear demarcation of the upper shoulders from the rest of the shirt and with this camera it seems to have whitened everything out. The glasses are photo etch and were quiet a challenge to put on. I think the ground work on both figures improved greatly over the last set. I used ground up oregano and some leaves by Hudson and Allan for Joan and ground up roots and oregano for Teddy. Anyways, here are my latest two. Suggestions and comments are welcome.

San Angelo Model Club website

Here is the link for the local model club in San Angelo.  Its a great club with a really friendly bunch of builders of all types of models.

Steel Legion Diorama

This is probably the biggest diorama I have done to date. It was a practice run for me to do some smaller vignettes with some Forgeworld Death Korps of Krieg models. The forgeworld stuff is so costly that I wanted to do some trial runs with some more inexpensive figures. The diorama takes place in the 40k universe and represents the Steel Legion overrunning a trench line. I wanted to try and replicate a WWI type of situation with the groundwork. In all honesty it didn't come out very well and I was not happy with it. The craters just look wrong. The figures are fine and the tank came out nicely, the walker is so-so. The diorama was finished out with a black border which hid the rough work on the sides. As a first attempt on this scale it was not bad but it could have been a lot better. Still it was a good learning experience. The display has since been taken apart and the figures individually based. I still might return a diorama of this size and scale in the future but for right now I think that the smaller vignettes are the way to go.

Even older works

These are some of my oldest works. I posted these to help see the progress I am making. The armor is all old Tamiya. Doing the armor stuff is more of a chance to do something different from the figures. I am hardly a armor builder. Its really more for variety from time to time.

120mm Sister of Battle

This is one of my older pieces that I entered into the 2012 Lone Star Figure Show in Dallas. For some reason they took a picture of this one, which didn't win anything and posted it, and the Reaper Miniatures Dana Murphy figure; which can be seen in a previous post, and won a 3rd place Bronze, didn't get its picture taken.

Anyways, the figure is an OOP from either Soldiers or perhaps Pegaso. I am pretty sure it is Soldiers so if anybody is looking for it you might try that company first. If anybody knows exactly then drop me a line. Its a nice build and it looks a lot better in person than on the box cover. Easy to see why it went OOP as it clearly resembles a Sister of Battle from 40k.

A random selection of figures

I plan to go back and work on the saddle for the cowboy for more shading and highlightings. Hopefully I will be including more works in progress to make things more interesting. The French Grenadier is 54mm from Nemrod, the space girl is from Reaper in 54mm, the German paraptrooper is from Warriors and I believe its 90mm. The Roman Signifier is from Verlinden and 200 mm. The cowboy is OOP from Barton Miniatures and 75mm. The Dwarf Pilot is from Scibor miniatures and is an excellent bust to paint. Lastly the Han Solo is from Knight Models and is 54mm. I plan to go back on that one and increase the shades and highlights on the blue jacket.

First Post

Decided to try and attract the attention of some other figure painters that might be in the area. I also setup and run the web page for the san angelo model club but that is not really dedicated to figures exclusively. Hopefully there are more painters in the area and this will start a dialogue. Of course this isnt only for those in the area, any modellers are welcome to comment. So I will keep this short to get things started here.
